Wednesday Website Linky Party

Trying to get this blog rolling, and found a great linky party to participate in, hosted by Tessa at Tales from Outside the Classroom.  This linky party features great websites for teachers, students, and their families.

So, I have a great website for teachers. 

This site is absolutely amazing for providing differentiated learning opportunities for students, and finding small group intervention lessons.  I hesitated to share it, because I thought surely everyone must know about it by now.  But, I thought just in case you don't, it would be worth it to put it out there one more time. It is the Florida Center for Reading Research, or FCRR.  

Click on the image and look over at the right side bar, and you will see a link for Instructional  Materials for Teachers. Click it, and another link for Students Center Activities should appear.  Those activities are further divided into grade levels K-1, 2-3, 4-5.  They have a very comprehensive collection of activities and lessons that cover everything from phonemic awareness to fluency and comprehension.  Our school actually made us spiral bound copies of all of their lessons for our grade level.  Which is very nice, because there is A LOT of material on this website.

Also, while you are there, take a look at their document detailing the alignment between the site's activities and the Common Core!

Late to the Party! But, I brought Freebies!

Ok, I know, I know, I am late to the Teacher Week Friday Link Up.  But, sometimes life is banging on your door, and you just have to let it in!

Anyway, if you are like me, you are probably still doing a lot of review with your students.  According to the results of my assessments, my reading group and I will have to spend some time reviewing all the short vowel sounds before we move on to new patterns.  

One of the fun things I use to review short vowels are my short vowel flipbooks.  I have done all the hard work, here.  There is no copying and turning, copying and rotating.  You simply copy, fold, and staple.  Easy and fast.  I promise.  The best part is the kids absolutely love them!

Right now, I have Short A for FREE!  The other short vowel flipbooks are now bundled for purchase in my store.

I also will be pulling out my "I Have, Who Has" games.  I created a whole set that asks children to segment and blend words with short vowels.  I carefully designed each of my "I Have, Who Has" games to also review most consonant sounds, as well.

A Big Yipppeeeeee and a "I Love Foldables" Linky Party!

Whooppeeee!  I just found out that I won first place in Jessica Stanford's "Just Because Giveaway"!  I never win anything.  She donated $10 to my next project at Donor's Choose.  I am thrilled.  Thanks so much, Jessica!  If you haven't checked out Jessica's blog, Mrs. Stanford's Class, head on over.  She always has some great ideas and such a positive attitude!

Besides winning giveaways, one of my other favorite things is a good foldable.  Do you love foldables as much as I do?  They are little books of magic and wonder to my students.  I love watching them get excited as they begin to fold, layer, etc...until they have their very own little book. 

Well, we are not the only foldable lovers out there.  Laura Candler over at Corkboard Connections had a Fantastic Foldable Freebies Linky Party awhile back.  Notice the emphasis on Freebies!  Yeah! She has a great list of foldable resources just for you.

Here are a couple of my own Fantastic Foldable Freebies!

This year, I used this Parts of Speech flip book as an end of the year review.  But, next year I will use it as a mini-word wall for my students.  They will be able to add to their flip book all year long.

I put my Short A Flip Books in my emergency substitute bin.  They were already folded, stapled, and ready to go.  Since the book was filled with fun review activities for short A, it was the best report I have received from a substitute in a long time.  She mentioned that the students were "very on task",  and "focused."  Music to my ears!

Short A Flip Book Freebie

This week has been fantastic!  I have definitely been "feeling the love" this week.  I want to thank all of my students' parents, team teachers, and all of my new "bloggy world" friends for all of their kind words, gestures, and for keeping me going...when let's face it, by this time of the year, you are just ready to lay down and wave the white flag.

So to thank all of you, and put a pretty, red ribbon on Teacher Appreciation Week, I have a new freebie to share with you.  It is my "Short A Flip Book" for K-2.  Why should the big kids get all the flip book fun, right? 

This activity flipbook has a little bit of everything:  a song, rhyming word hunt, a sound sort activity, short a word families, making words, and letter A writing practice, all wrapped up in a fun little package.  Click on any of the images below to download your free flip book.
