Helping Each Other and a Freebie!
After yesterday's post, I heard from several people that feel the same way I do about hanging bulletin board paper. I shared a few tips...But, I always consider myself a learner first, and would love to hear your tricks and tips for accomplishing this task. So lets help one another. Head over to my new Facebook page and leave your best bulletin board tips and tricks. While you are there, you can download my new freebie!
Chow!
Most of the time I used fabric on my board. It is just as easy to hang, :), but it doesn't fade and you don't see the holes from the staples that you pulled out because the letters, papers, etc. weren't straight the first time.
ReplyDeleteI alllllmosssst bought fabric this year...but it was expensive. Like $4 something a yard. I think I need to think about it as a long term investment. I still might change my "lime" (aka: ugly neon yellow)paper that I put up yesterday!

I don't know where you are exactly, but we have Joann's Fabric stores out here, and if you catch a sale AND use your teacher discount, the solid colored fabric is SUPER CHEAP!
DeleteThanks Simonette, I actually wasn't aware that Joann's had a teacher discount. I will definitely check it out.

I use the plastic tablecloths from the party store.
ReplyDeleteOh...I saw that idea on Pinterest...forgot about that. Great idea. Thanks.

I found fabric at the clearance table in walmart, $1/yard. I've also used bedsheets from goodwill (just wash them first!).
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Allison. Thanks!
DeleteCheck out the sheet section at Wal-mart. A twin size flat one is $4 and it will cover a pretty large bulletin board. They have some colors and stripes. I know other stores such as Target carry sheets like Wal-mart, but I do not know the price (can you tell I just bought a twin one for a bulletin board?).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info, Seldy.

I have used plastic table cloths from party stores. They are cheap and cut very easily and come in a variety or colors and patterns. (I know that they would have a pretty lime green!). I have also used cheap felt from a bolt at Joannes. They come in WIDE bolts (60") and it's often on sale for 40% off.Normally i think it's about $4.99 a yard but with 40% off, it's only $2.99/yard. So I can get a piece that is 60" by 72" for about $6.00. The plastic table cloths show staple holes, but the felt doesn't. They both stay nice and bright all year, every year! I'm really lazy when it comes to putting new paper up all the time, so I love these two options.
ReplyDeleteGreat information. Thanks.

Our school district requires us to put fire retardant on the fabric. I have never done this. Any tips for this?
ReplyDeleteIf you get a chance, head over to my blog's Facebook page. There were a couple of links that addressed your question. Thanks for stopping by.

I bought my fabric on the Walmart clearance table several years ago for $1.00 a yard. I bought the entire bolt of fabric! When I changed classrooms, I just took it down and threw it in the washer and dryer. Since I use plain black backgrounds on all my boards, it has been relatively easy to find cheap fabric when I needed it. I have one type of black fabric that seems to "catch" dust bunnies much worse than all of the other fabric. I have tried to avoid that fabric ever since I realized it was bad about that. Thank you for all of the ideas that you share. I know that you have received awards before, but I have left you the Versatile Blogger Award as a thank you for all of the wonderful ideas that you share on your fantastic blog. Please visit mrsrhodesscholars.blogspot.com to accept your award.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info and the award, Jayne! I appreciate it. I might have to go check out my local Walmart. Maybe I was looking in the wrong section. I need to find the clearance. I,too, would be looking for solid fabrics. Wish me luck.

Nicole - oh bulletin boards...I really do love them. I only use fadeless paper from the teacher store though. I used to hang December's up then cover with November's, etc. to August. So they were already done ahead of time but that was when my mom was alive. She was so incredibly organized. That must have skipped a generation- LOL anyway swing by my blog and link up and tell us about your summer or what you have coming up - including new products. We'd love to hear from you. :o)

Vicky, what a blessing to have had your mom as your personal classroom stylist. I try to hard to be organized, but I too, seem to lack a strong gene for that. I can be so scattered! Thanks for the invite to visit your blog. I'm on my way.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI often go to Goodwill and buy a flat sheet to use for my bulletin boards. You'd be surprised at the selection of colors. They also sometimes have big piece of fabric there too. Usually no more than $2 for the whole thing!
